Joomla! is a free open source content management system for publishing content on the World Wide Web and intranets. The system includes features such as page caching to improve performance, RSS feeds, printable versions of pages, news flashes, blogs, polls, website searching, and language internationalization. Joomla is licensed under the GPL, and is the result of a fork of Mambo. The name Joomla officially ends with an exclamation mark, but this is commonly omitted. It is written in the PHP programming language and uses the MySQL database by default.
What does this mean to my clients? Well several things. On the development end, it’s just another tool to create web pages. As the name “content management system” suggests, it allows for rapid implementation and great flexibility in creating websites. Several of our client’s recent websites have been developed using this system, and we thought it would be a good idea for our company website as well. But the other key is this. If you want a website that you can manage and update yourself, SiteSolution4Me can create a Joomla! CMS website, and then you can save money by doing your own updates. Remember, CMS means “content management,” and in the web business, content is king! So that’s the story. When you see Joomla! splashed around the website, it’s because that was the software used to create it! |
